Shattered-a poem

We shattered the glass

All over the floor

We walked away

But you walked back

Picked up a few pieces

and threw them at me

I turned to walk away again

When you threw a couple more shards

You seem to want to repair the window

When I know it just needs to be replaced

You want to debate who

Threw the first ball

Instead of who threw the last

Causing the window to break

You show me the pieces as though we could

Figure out which belongs to which of us

And we could put them back together

But there are too may pieces

And you’ve thrown

shards at me that stuck...

We’ll never get them back

Then again...I can’t tell

If your efforts are genuine to

Repair the window or if you

Just seek justification by pointing out

The pieces you think I broke

You wonder why I reply

You can’t seem to understand

That although the window

Is broken, I still see

Some of the remaining pieces

As being good

I care enough to not

want you to bleed

The window is gone though so

perhaps, unwittingly I’m making

You bleed more?

So, I resolve...

That it’s time to walk away

For good

Let you heal on your own

As I heal on my own

Before the shards turn into larger pieces
